Default The Drivers Rally (USA)

REGISTRATION FOR THE DRIVERS RALLY IS OPEN
East coast VW and Audi owners are preparing for an exciting drive to Colorado

As winter slowly moves along, several east coast Volkswagen and Audi owners are preparing for what is sure to be the largest event of it’s kind in 2006. Known as The Drivers Rally, the route will kick off at Induktion Motorsports in Hanover MD and is planned for a 3 day journey that will culminate with a visit to Dubs Along the Rockies in Colorado Springs, CO. Along the way, participants will be some of the first to drive the brand new track in Hastings, NE and there will also be several shop visits and club GTG visits planned as well. Mid-America Motorworks, Bob Hindson Racing, and RS Motorsports are all on the schedule, plus a few other shops and surprises await those who take part.

This event is open to all VW, Audi and Porsche enthusiasts and it is set to depart Maryland on Tuesday the 20th of June. Registration is open now and will close on the 20th of May. For more details or to sign up for this event, please visit http://www.therallye.com or call (719) 237-0411 and speak with Scott Napier, the event organizer.

Here is the info you will need to fully understand what is involved:

This is going to be a self funded rally, so make sure you have adequate funds in place to get yourself out to Colorado and back. The estimated amount required to be able to complete the trip comfortably is ~$1400, for more details on this cost estimate please keep reading.

We are asking for a $100 registration fee and for that you will recive the following:

* Rally participant t-shirt
* Dubs Along the Rockies t-shirt
* Drivers Rally number plates or event plate (not sure yet which one yet)
* entry fees into the Dubs Along the Rockies car show are covered
* one copy of the Rallye/ DATR DVD
* 10 free raffle tickets @ DATR

The cost estimate we are using for this event is broken down as follows:

FUEL: The total trip will be roughly 3600 miles, and I am using the figures of 300 miles per tank of gas and 23 mpg (13 gallons). My fuel costs were $2.35 for the low number and $3.00 for the high number. That makes the fuel cost between $366.60 and $432.00.

LODGING: I would suggest doubling up with another driver, but if you want your own room I am looking at a total of 5 or 6 hotel rooms depending on how you return home. With a cost of $450 @ 75 per day. Of course, I am working on getting (and probably will get) cheaper rates, but just use $450 as your planning figure.

TRACK FEES: You are not required to run at the track, but you will miss out on a LOT of fun if you don't! I am using the figure of $300 for this, but these fees will be announced as soon as I get a total number of drivers (to get a group rate). I am almost positive that the cost will be much less than $300, but again, use that as your planning figure.

FOOD: You are leaving on the 20th of June and returning on or around the 27th. If you eat like me, than plan on about $30 per day which is a total of $210. Of course if you eat like a bird or get back a day early you can do the math on that yourself.

TOTAL COSTS: $1326 on the low side and $1392

So basically if you have $1400 ready to go you will be good to go for the entire trip!!
