Default My '73 Bay Project

I picked up a bay just after the new year, I started looking it over the one afternoon to see just what I had gotten myself into...

Day 1

The pop up is from a '70 bay I use to have, I just need to replace the rotted out wood and put it on.

It reminds me of the black bug I had... Looks damn good from 20 feet away!
This one is more like 40 feet

Hey look, it has H4's

Looking around the bus at some rust spots that will need attention soon.

Hasn't been on the roads since 2001...
Has a little rust under the windshield.

Little bit of sheet metal to straighten, from ???

Getting a look at the inside and the presents I was left. The AC unit behind the drivers seat is a Dealer installed Volkswagen item...

Looking in the engine bay... I see the need to replace the CV boots, might as well drop the tranny and do the shifter bushings too.
Will drain, and pull the tank. Get all the yuck out of it!
Also looking at the AC hoses, wiring going to need some straighten out.
The AC condenser and freon lines under the bus...

Day 2

I was a little under the weather this weekend. :pale:
But managed to get out Sunday afternoon while it was warm.

Here are more pics of the AC evap.

Long enough and finish cleaning out the back of the bay. She's pretty clean. Just a few surface rust spots that I will treat next time the weather permits.

The front will be next.

Day 3 & 4

Front floor isn't too bad, passengers side has a spot with a hole to repair.
Looking up into the nose are is good and rust clear.

The blue box is a cruise control unit, The hand controls and the vacuum cylinder for it also. Will add pic later... Cruise control installation instructions found in the glove box.

The defrost vents are toast, I'm thinking about making an cover that will direct the air toward the windshield better than the factory (which we all know sucks).

So far I've found about $3.00 in change while cleaning it out.
