Here is a very unusual Supermodified from 1979 built by Ken Reece.

It has 4 wheels per the rules, but 3 of them are on the right side and only 1 on the left. It was banned from racing at Oswego Speedway in NY before it got a chance to race. The car was tested by NASCAR star Tim Richmond at Sandusky, Ohio. It performed well enough in testing that the officials got nervous and banned it after previously indicating it would be allowed to run. The car owner, Ken Reece, got mad after he spent all the cash building it and cut it up.

The single wheel on the left side and the center wheel on the right side were the drive wheels. The front and rear wheels on the right side were used for steering, but turned opposite each other.

Supermodifieds are the fastest and wildest short track oval cars and for a period of time there were virtually no rules limiting what could be raced. They have 500 c.i. aluminum injected big blocks and no tire rules. They have beeen built in the past with front engines, rear engines, off set side engines and all wheel drive variations.
