first off, you got a great deal on that thing....
you're completely right about the fact that it's your car, so you can do anything you want to it. Although as you've read, some of our members disagree 
I personally love weird projects. It's not something i'd do to such a vehicle, but it's a 1000 times better then it ending up at the scrappers.
Ans although your first "welcome" to this site wasn't exactly positive, i do hope you guys hang around from time to time.. bringing us updates and stuff.
