Would this fit
Hi I came across the opportunity of purchasing a new mk1 gti four buttoned steering wheel some time ago, even though I do not own a mk1  I thought these chances don’t turn up every day. I am now looking for a late mk1 cabrio 91/92 and my question is would it be a straight swap.

yup
|
Thanks I think that looks so much better than the Mk2 steering wheel found in the later cabs.

a correct answer with pics in less than a minute...   |
didn't the later cabbies have the big spline just like the late mk2's?
|
If that's true is there a cut off year anyone knows of or can it be altered to fit.
|
on the mk2 spline it's just a sleeve which can be grinded off, if the cabby has this too it's probably a sleeve aswell, how-ever Richard might be right that all cabbies had the same spline, i dunno about that. cut-off for europe was late 87 (88 model) for the mk2's
|
nope, my '89 cabby has a big spline, but there should be an adaptor on the spline? That i should be possible to take that off to get a small spline?
@ Tjaap, when I was working on my cabbby with Marco, he called you....remenber??? |
pull it off with a suitable 'pully-puller'?
|
Correct, the later cabby models have the altered spline. It came with the same modellchange as the altering of the gastank, and the newer engines. So '88>
|
I just looked it up in the parts catalogue, the Cabrio did get the bigger spline from 88 and up. Still, it looks like this is a sleeve like mentioned.
26 mm sleeve up to VIN 15-K-022 258, p/n 191 419 514 A 45 mm sleeve from VIN 15-K-022 259, p/n 191 419 514 |
it is a sleeve, and can be pulled off with a small pully-puller
