Stunning MK1 GTI Campaign (one of the best)

A509 CAU

I have for sale this truly remarkable MK1 Golf GTI Campaign, the car was treated to a 3 year restoration by Nigel Harrison in the 6 1/2 years of ownership and was finished just 2 years ago. It had brand new genuine panels including wings and a boot lid, it had new genuine bumpers, arches, rubbers, grill, lights and stickers etc many of these genuine parts are now obsolete and when available they reach very high prices. The exterior of the car is in excellent condition the internal sunroof surround is like brand new and all the panels, been genuine they fit how they should. The underside of the car was fully wax oiled to preserve it as much as possible and the inner arch tubs painted with reseal again as a protection to the car and a visial benifit.

Interior

The interior of the car is in timeless condition, everything looks as new and works as it should be, the seats are still firm and have no bolster wear or thinning of material. The MAF the onboard computer works exactly how it should and the headlining and carpets are like brand new, it has all its original glass apart from the screen, with the cars registration number on. The only none original part of the interior is a later spec cassette player, again I was on the hunt for an original unit.

Wheels

The Pirelli wheels have also had a full refurbishment, and really do look as good as new, they also have brand new Yokohama A359 tyres which are very grippy.

Brakes

The brakes were are a TSR upgrade to 270mm and obviously fit behind the 14" Pirelli's. And these really do help with the cars braking over the standard size discs, she also has goodridge hoses all round.

The Engine

The engine has done a genuine 116,000 miles with all the documents to prove, she feels nice and strong with smooth gear selections throughout. When I got her I had a new cam belt and water pump fitted for peace of mind, this was done by a good friend of mine who is a mechanic.

My History

I have owned the car less than a year, and I have only used her once, the rest of the time she has been in a warm garage, I bought the car to keep and to use on the odd sunny weekend, and I also spent a long time trying to find the perfect campaign but after viewing over 20 others around the UK, over the space of 8 months, looking at so called "minters" that turned out not to be the case. I eventually stumbled across this car, and after 2 hours of looking around her inside and out, a deal was struck. Nigel Harrison only sold the Golf to me as he had a Mars Red MK1 campaign and a MK1 Caddy project under way and needed the money to try and complete these. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I have no other choice but to let the MK1 go. Whoever buys the MK1 really will not be disappointed she really is a gem and is pretty much faultless and as Volkswagen intended.

History

The first owner was a Mrs Gillian fry she purchased the Golf on the 9-9-1983 and owned her until 17-7-1986, and covered 31,000 miles, She then sold it to Derick Brothwell who owned it until 1994 he had it had 64,500 miles, It was then bought by Robert Carr who owned her till 2003 where it had covered 107,600 miles, He then sold it to a Michael Reynolds who had the car from 6-7-2003 he covered less than a 1000 miles until he sold it with a twisted wrist to Nigel Harrison on the 29-8-2004, Nigel then restored the car over the time he owned it spending a lot of time and money sourcing original parts etc up until i bought the car to the current mileage of 116.000 miles

The Golf has extensive documentation, including every mot and pretty much every tax disc from new, she has paper work for more or less everything. With bills mounting to thousands of pounds.

I strongly believe it has to be one of the best Campaigns out there especially with the documented history, and any inspection is welcome, in all honesty the engine is completely standard and to make perfect is could do with a bit of time prettying it up to match the rest of car, it is nice but could be perfect with a little time and elbow grease, this was one thing I was going to do when time allowed.

Anymore information required please do not hesitate to contact me, I will try and answer all questions asked as quickly and honestly as I can.

I believe the first serious potential buyer to come and view the car, will be taking her home, I really think you will be pushed to finder a better campaign especially for the money I am asking.

This car really would suit a collector or true enthusiast like myself, this really is an iconic car, and deserves an owner her will keep her to the standard she is used to and over time finish a few minor jobs that could really make her a concourse car.

Right down to business the car needs to be mot'd and also have the camber and tracking done as i replaced a ball joint and its steering all over at the place at the minute, both of these will be sorted before the car goes, the car is not taxed or insured either so can only go on a little test drive.

As said i need to sell this sooner rather than ltr so i have priced this for a quick sale.

£5950 ono.

I have seen similar for over £8000

Any more information please contact me 07890288050

I have around 50 detailed pictures please email or ring for more information.

Cheers Jamie
