New member with Caddy on Fuchs

well, Dutchy sent me this way to post my caddy on here. Hope you all like it!

The goal was to get a low (numerically) offset wide wheel on the back of the caddy, and lower it without losing suspension travel. Keeping travel was important as I still use this as a hauler, and it also allowed me to keep the airshocks as well.

The excellent welding was done by my buddy Terry (airNwater). We hacked off the existing stub axle plates, narrowed the beam by 2.5" on each side, and welded VWJerm's lowering plates on with extra gussets.

While that was in process, I refinished and hand polished six Fuchs, two 15x6, two 15x7, and two 15x8. I can actually fit 15x9s in the rear, but I won't do that unless I can figure out how to get the 15x7s up front without a ton of poke. The 15x7s would fit well with factory flares, but I like the cleaner, no flare look, so the 15x6s are on right now.

Next steps are new windshield seal with chrome trim, chrome the front euro bumper, and chop up the chrome rear euro bumper I have to fit on the back. I also have to decide on whether to go small duckbill and whether to keep the LX badges on the back.

*disclaimer, I suck at taking pics*

ok, on to the pics, note the early chrome front sidemarkers:

pics won't work here, but i allready saw it on vwvortex.com... Nice ride, nice wheels, scary suspension/rear axle... I wouldn't dare to drive with that thing!

What's wrong with flipping your rear axle over the springplates?

Tjaap 18-10-2007 23:06

and because most of us can't see the pics..
i uploaded them to the album

Why is it scary? The factory stub axle plates are welded as well, and my buddy is a quality welder, not to mention we added the gussets which the factory setup does not have.

Flipping the axle decreases suspension travel to virtually nil, especially if you want to be able to carry any load at all (which I do). I also do not have to change out to shorter shocks with this method.

it does look like quality work. i'm seriously contemplating this method for mine.
plus the look of yours is damn near perfect..
the color, wheels and stance,.... it just works.. works great.

What a damn nice caddy. Love the looks!

Erik 19-10-2007 07:59

Nothing wrong with the rear axle.
Lovin the style, lovin the car, nice work!

Put the caddy in a seafreight container and send it to me now, u hear me!!!
I trade it with my 83 gti.
I love the caddy.

Melvin 19-10-2007 08:32

Now I notice the ride levelers! Very nice! Can you show me your highest and lowest setting?

Sander 19-10-2007 11:27

Awsome Caddy. May I just suggest that you loose the too modern chrome Caddy letters on the back?

Stijn 19-10-2007 16:12

Agreed. Amazing.

Which reminds me. I need a greencard. Marry me?

Melvin 19-10-2007 16:17

Are those shocks always mounted like that (crossed?) strange!!! (i'm a definate caddy n00b)

Marcski 19-10-2007 18:08

yup, they are..

nice caddy, good stance and Fuchs look amazing. Chrome bumpers would be a bit overkill imho, but i already decided some while ago that my caddy is getting the black steel up front and no bumper up back like yours, plus i'm just not a fan on chrome on a truck... But hey, to each his own

biggest problem of the int. forums.. the quality is there, just missing the traffic...

otti 02-05-2009 00:27

i dont see a problem wit the welding?!
i see a bigger problem with the bags when you use it as a hauler and haul 4 tons of concrete or something....
the stance is spot on, i like the colour as well
