the end of my mk2Golf era

my first mk2, first car even. It all came to an end yesterday.
I bought this car 3 days after i got my liscense, and it was what started the hobby for me. Even changed my life to a degree that i gave up studying economics at the university to go to a tech-school for car development. I got tired of the slow 1.3 about 2 years ago, and i decided i liked the coupe style better anyway so i bought my recent coupe.

But what do you do with your first love? you can't sell her, that would be sacriledge.... ;) so i rented a spot in a barn to put her into storage. Hoping that one day i would get a great idea or a good opputunity to put her to good use. But as time passed i changed my mind so many times that she never got out of the barn again.

Then my friend Marc crashed his Jetta, and he needed parts for cheap, so i thought, what the hell just get them of the Golf. And piece by piece she started to get robbed of parts.

And then, about a month ago, i was given a mk1 Golf by Chris. As this will become my new project i needed the spot in the barn.

So finally i decided to put the Golf out of it's misery,.. I GAVE IT UP.
put the paperwork in an envelope and send them to Stijn. he stripped her for parts and she will leave to the junkyard in a few days.

so in a few days it will be no more Golf.
so as my tribute to her, i'm gonna make her one last picpost, so all her friends can say goodbye

as i bought her

first mod, quad lights :D

first crash

broken down in Belgium :sly:

friends that drove 3 hours to come to the rescue

fixed again

her best days

the day i brought her to the storage (her replacement (the coupe) on the left)

as she sat there for 1.5 years

the pics Stijn send me today

and the one that will take her place in the barn

THE END :( :D

Goodbye :snif:

Sorry Jaap :*(

Do I spot a fine MH engine on the trailer? electric fuel pump hanging by it's lines on the right? 084 or 085 box?

sjampoo 14-03-2004 22:38

Oh, and:

what's with them 'Coupe style' car?
It's a fuckin 5 door or 3 door hatchback.. The mark2 golf didn't come in much more flavours.... (or did I miss somethin')

Tjaap 14-03-2004 22:41

2 door Jetta... they call it Jetta coupe in the US, and as it sound sporty, now i do too :)

Tjaap 14-03-2004 22:43

the engine is great, but i have no clue if it's an MH... about 10000 km's since rebuild, and doesn't use any oil... It's Stijn's now, so make him an offer he can't refuse ;)

Stijn 15-03-2004 01:42

It's an MH.

Once again made my mark: to have the engine out while it's still warm! Took me 40mins exactly.

Marcski 15-03-2004 15:34

It's not Kwikfit but Kwikdismantle

Black Devil 16-03-2004 15:13

It's a shame but that's life!

VeeDubber 16-03-2004 16:20

Hey Tjaap, did you have the same problem as me?
That you had to explain to everybody why the hell you bought an older car then youre previous one? I bought an 83 A1 Golf GTi after an accident with my 86 A2 GTi and lot´s of people just didn´t understand why I bought an older one.....

The trouble of an A1 lover, incredible........

Tjaap 16-03-2004 17:19

LOL, well i replaced the 87 golf with an 89 Jetta, so i got some understanding for that, the fact that i bought a "turkenbak" was the hard thing to explain ;) ...... the mk1 is a project, and even my non-car friends understand that projects are supposed to be old :D ...
and yeh, my roomies don't get my carhobby anyways...so, they don't even bother... and my family decided they don't even wanna know what i'm getting into anymore :D

Allart-Ghetta 17-03-2004 01:32

Fuck them all, we JETTA owners take over the world.
I now own a turkenbak with thule, no one understands it.
Anyone asks what i'm going to put on the roof and I say it's for pimpin' around, then they just look funny.

1.3L engine would be really affordable with our current gas prices, dollar a liter.

u still mk2 man ;)

Tjaap 28-05-2004 16:10

not really. in a mk2, with my driving.. a 1.8 is just as good for gasmileage as the 1.3 was
