my rabbit gti
hello
my name is otti and i am from germany. my expensive hobby made it a necessity to get a better payed job so i moved to norway, where i still live. i am in the process of building a car up from scratch and ride the bus  shortly after i moved to here i bought my first mk1 84 rabbit (kind of rare in europe i think. i did a lot of work to that car and enjoyed it a lot  i bought the complete content of the sparco catalouge, supersprint exhaust, lights, chrome parts and silicone tubes.....and more i loved that car and decidet to drive it to germany for a nice repaint in my vacations. unfortunately did we when we took it apart a lot more rust than we expected difcould specially on the rear axlemounts :( there was no hope of saving it and i was really unhappy when we had to crush it. no time to waste i bought a new shell and begun to work on it i got a good offer for a 1.8t engine i couldnt refuse one year later, tons of work ,3000euro in planetickets many hours overtime she sits like this the car is copletely white inside engine bay and underside  and for fun: first start dnt mind my voice i was exited to hear her roar for the first time :D gauges i hope you like it  |
very nice, love the white and blue combo.. very nice detailed aswell
|
Indeed, the blue-white engine bay is a killer
Really nice! |

thank you,her a pic from under construction 6 months ago |
btw what are those covers on the struts.. they look like tunacans...
|
they are tunacans!
i spend so much in details that i wanted something cheap to break up the tense, and i couldnt find some nice caps for a reasnoble price either. i got some good sandwiches though :D |
well you def get an A+++ for originality.... never seen that being used before
|
Quote:
hihi they fit quite well and look for shure better than the strut mounts only some foam tape on the inside to hold them in place. and they will not rust  |
and if you get really bored you can even polish them,... i think you might be setting a new trend..
|
i want a differend (big) rear bumper, the one i have got will crash with the exhaust.
i dont want one from a cabby, any sugestions?? please help me find something what fits the front bumper and skirts  i think the one i got looks out of place  |
i'm not a fan of big bumpers on mk1's but it goes with the style of this car.
there are some mk2 look bumpers on the market. i think Rieger made them?? |
Wow really great colour combo otti, love the two tone with the blue and white. The engine bay is stunning great job!! I wouldn't change the rear bumper, you could always run it without bumpers which looks really racy and actually quite nice in my opinion.

thank you but i could actually not run no bumper style my fmic sits in the frontbumper and is mounted on the bar that holds the actual bumper, you know what i mean?? but i can show you how it looked without bumpers, flares and skirts... i liked it as well, only the wheels looked to big without the stuff...imo |
i like it without bumpers:D
|
i think i am gonna powdercoat the intakemanifold white for a change everbody got a noce polished one these days...
if someone is interrested i got a whole build thread... |
i was at the shop and the guys told me that the car is done in 2 days...
then tüv (shakes a little) the frigggin tüv is going to cost me another 1000euros, damn. i got the new cybershot cell phone to make some vids from rolling around berlin be prepared..... :wow: |
here now the promised vids from me testdriving her around berlin a little  only thing is that the exhaust is hitting something  i have to take another look at that
testrun testrun testrun1 walkaround enjoy |
i filled her up with fuel for the first time at a gas station for the test ride
|
and how was the test drive?
|
Quote:
very good no broblems besides the bumping exhaust, i am lucky that i didnt lost my license from speeding thoug :D i posted some vids a little more up... to program the speedo i need a 2 mile road, need to find out how long that is on a usual road to get some exact speed readings... |
Congrats, hope you will pass the test without to much trouble.
If you like, come visit me in Wolfsburg ;) :D And, yes please, post the link to your project topic. |
i hope we meet at some gtg´s next year
the car is now in his warm and nice winterhome.... here the link as requested http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3314417 a big thanks to all my friends who helped me a lot during the build |
tuna cans FTW! get this car done OTTI!
|
fantastic project...
how to put sparco pro 2000 so low????? |
Quote:
with the stock sparco seatmounts :D actually the drivers seat is about 2cm higher than the passenger seat since the tüv demands that the drivers seat has to be adjustable  thanks anyway :) |
i just watchet the pics in your thread again and it really seems that your seats are much higher than mine could you make a pic of the seat mounts you are using??
i´ll try to find a pic of mine in the meantime! |
thank's otti... I have custom built seat mounts but I can't go moore low...
what is the size of your pro 2000? I found a photo of seat mount... |
|
my seatmonts looks totally different than mine since the race style mounts are not street legal in germany.
my are two partet. basicly a 40/40 angle bar with 3 holes in the front ad a H-bar in the back. sorry i cant find any pics either, if i would be closer to the car i would snap some but i am not even in the same country:-( the seats are the only size that has been available at the time i bought them... lets put it this way i need to do some serius training to be abled driving the car next year |
the only pic i found where you can see the end of the front mount
|
in italy is all illigal, so I don't have this problem...
can you take the size of your seat in centimeters?circa.... did you cut the central point of attack on the chassi?in the middle of the seats? |
may I ask you the seatmount code (from sparco) or the model, and the same for the seat?
so I can compare with my set up.... thank's |
0499071 Type 17 Golf I Ã* 08/83 00493 Fe 37 345 x 271 FIA 693,00
this is the mount and the seat: Vnr - Glassfiber.: spa-00857FAZ this is from the norwegian sparco import, i dont know if the numbers are equal in all countrys??!! |
i didnt need to cut anything but i was wondering how you mounted yours??
with the pics above the mount seems to be where the the frame goes in mine?! do you have your seats so far back? i could not reach my pedals if i would... my driving position is like on the pic above.... |
perfect... for the size...
ok so your seat mount are plug & play? today I contact sparco Italy for have some info... my seat have toora side mount and under there is a "chassis" custom built on original style mk1.... the driving position is very bad, becouse are to mutch higt... but for the distance to pedals I'm ok |
yes they are plug and play. i did modify them a little because the were pushing against the seat valence a little.
here a pic of my friend testing the seat position, he is 175cm high to compair :) |
love it!
