this is becoming quite a huge roadtrip... how many miles did you guys cover?

otti 03-11-2009 16:39

i will tell the stats at my last post of the actual roadtrip just need to finish the diary first!

where were we?
oklahoma city! the cheapest fuel we saw on the whole trip 2,13$/gal for regular, wow that is about 20% of the fuel price here in norway...

this is so far from legal in germany...

we met the legendary route 66 for the first time on our way west

and entered texas shortly afterwards

i was looking forward to come to texsas, not because of this

but because of THIS

i wanted a mega steak so badly!
we saw two guys sitting on a stage with a countdown to finish their BIG STEAK and all the sdes in 1 hour

i began to worry that i could not manage that and the 72$ bill that would await me so i chickened out and ordered the small 32oz one

boath of the guys managed and i regred that i didnt do it since i began to be really hungry after the small steak...it was soooooo good
i liked the interior too

after i finished my steak i went on and needed to order some barbecue ribs, my bro showed me the middle finger when i finished them too and began to look for the menu again...
we took some pics outside and drove on

hard to tell but there are some cars doug into the ground..

the road seemed endless

into new mexico, we drove still without a/c to conserve fuel...

the cel on our trusty corolla told us that maintanance was now required, ohhhmm ok (middle of nowhere)
we decided that that has to be for the regular oilchange and decided to not give a #### about it

we stopped in gallup and found the first cheap motel right at the off ramp, no pool though...
across the street we spotted something

a small car museum!!
we walked n and there was a class reunion going on but the owner (a woman!) told us that we could just go in since they are going to have open much longer that very day (wow, lucky for us!)

our favourite

my bro went to the gas station and used his newly learned english skills to buy the mandatory 18pack of beer!!
we sat outside on the porch and enjoyed the spectacular sunset....
hard to see but the sky was babyblue with pink clouds!!

what a nice day that was (still wish i had gotten the big steak though..)
in the car museum i also came up with a nice rule for europeans:
if you have no clue what car that is and you have never seen it before -it´s a lincoln!

Tjaap 03-11-2009 16:45

i could sooooooooooooooo eat that steak...

GerardMkIIVR6 03-11-2009 16:59

lol @ the dicussion about straight roads!
i will post a summary when the diary is finished! keep checking the tread and you will see!

on the road again!

we know that we had to drive through the dessert and that there would not be too much to take pictures of but i like the desert.
i lived in fuertevenura (spain) for two years and the nature looks simular there...

the rocky mountain ridges came in sight

a beautyful corvette heading the same way

had to take a pic with the route 66 sign

and entered arizona

a fierce sandstorm came up, do you see the motorcycle rider batteling the sidewind

we saw a sign at the roadside that directed us to a " meteorite crater " was hoping it was the one i thought about!
and it was!!
http://www.barringercrater.com

really cool truck parked in the lot

there was also a test group of gm cars with a opel vectra as reference car

we slept in flagstaff and had pasta for the first time ....and beer!
the only thing that was crazy in flagstaff was the trains that run through the town and warn/horn at every crossing about every 5 minutes.

we drove on to go to see the grand canyon

on the map it didnt look too far of the interstate either so we drove off.
the road to the skywalk was not finished so we drove 45min on a gravelroad that looked like this

AND THEN THE BIGGEST BUMMER OF THE WHOLE TRIP!!!
we came to a big parking lot where we HAD to park our car to walk to a store to purchase tickets.
43$ each for a 10min busride to the rim of the grand canyon and 29,90 extra each if we want to go on the skywalk.
on top of that you where not allowed to take your OWN camera with you so that you would have to buy photos expensive of them.

what the heck???? it would have been about 170$ to see something nature made itself, that is a MAJOR RIP OFF!
my brother and i agreed that we would not throw our money away like that and drove off, sadly the only pics we have from the grand canyon are these here we took when we unlawful (!) stopped on the roadside pretending we had car trouble...

i was really angry that you have to pay to see a national nature monument so we drove back the way we came to come closer to our next planned stop, who can guess where that was???

Tjaap 04-11-2009 17:02

Viva............................

Chromosexual 04-11-2009 17:52

my guess is the hoover dam?

Jens, lemme know the next time you want to do the Grand Canyon.... I would love to go..... fuck the money grubbing tourism bullshit!

bonus points for our chromosexual!

after i got over the dissaponting grand canyon experience and drive over the gravel road, we found the interstate again and drove on...

until we reached this:
the hoover damm

there was a group of mercedes gullwings, just lovely

we parked

and took a walk over the damm

there was some construction going on, a interstate bridge over the gauge!
that thing was really high and its going to be THE meeting point for BASE jumpers in the future!

not so much water in there..

lake mead (spelling?)

back on the road to las vegas

then there was something i didnt expect!
i wanted to stay at the circus circus again ( i stayed there last time when i was in vegas and i loved it)
and now we went up to the reception:
-they had rooms available
-only 34 dollars per person/night
-11th floor

i was so happy, the best hotel we had on our whole trip was also the cheapest!

unfortunately the carussellbar (remember fear and loathing las vegas) was closed!
i wanted to get hammered there until we would have problems to come off, like in the movie...

i bought a bottle of j.daniels and a 6 pack of coke and we took a strall down the strip...drinking whiskey/cola from the bottle and mixed from the can.

more vegas to come...

Big Caddy 05-11-2009 21:07

haha. nice. the more tucky (spelling) drinks the better his faces get.

I look forward to your updates.

breadfan83 05-11-2009 23:33
